The Serve and Volley design studio was founded in Cologne in 2019 by Klaus Neuburg and Simon Roth. The key focus of their work is the design of complex communication systems across various media - for a diverse range of clients, from individuals to institutions. Thematically, the studio works primarily in the fields of society, education, art and culture. Serve and Volley has been based in Cologne and Constance since 2025. Besides studio projects, Klaus and Simon are a part of the association »Froh!« which is a cultural mediator operating at the intersection of design, social engagement and cultural research.

Prof. Klaus Neuburg
has been working in the design field in various disciplines for about 20 years. After studying architecture and working for several years in a visual communications agency, he co-founded Froh! Magazine in 2008. Since 2010 he has been working independently as a designer, publicist and lecturer. He taught as a visiting professor at the HFBK Hamburg (»Klasse Grafik«) and as a substitute professor at the University of Applied Sciences Hamm-Lippstadt. Since 2020, he teaches as a professor for »Media Design with a focus on Interactive Media« at Ostfalia HAW Braunschweig / Wolfenbüttel.
Simon Roth
studied Communication Design at the Karlsruhe University of Arts and Design. He has been working as a designer since 2012, gaining experience at various design agencies before co-founding Serve and Volley in 2019. From 2018 to 2021, he taught Conceptual Design at the University of Wuppertal and Communication Design at Ecosign Academy in Cologne. As Art Director and Vice Chairman of the association Froh! e.V., Simon leads and facilitates workshops across Europe and beyond. Until 2021, he was co-founder and curator of the Strizzi exhibition space.
