Artists’ Communities Archive – Rhineland
The website aca-rh.net is the result of the first phase of a research project on artistic networks in the Rhineland – with a particular focus on the connections within and between these groups.
At the core of the project is a comprehensive database structured into four main areas: groups, individuals, exhibitions, and publications. Through a combination of data visualization and filter functions, users can explore records and their interconnections visually.
By the end of its first project phase in May 2025, the website aca-rh brings together over 280 creative networks, artist communities, literary associations, artist colonies, and collectives.
Type | Web Application |
Client | Arbeitskreis »Moderne im Rheinland« e.V. |
Year | 2023-25 |
Location | Cologen/Düsseldorf |
Developer | Stephan Maihöfer |
Data Processor | Sebastian Pranz |
Backend | Giacomo Nanni |
The website is based on a complex filter system that allows you to customize the data graph down to the smallest unit.
For example, if you search for 1. »book art« and then 2. for »Exhibitions in Cologne« you get among others Jan Tschichold. Obviously, the Swiss typographer was also on the road in Cologne.
If you now want to know in which exhibitions he was involved, you can see in the graph that he is connected to the Pressa exhibition.
The website enables intuitive research that allows you to discover more than you are actually looking for.
