Design als Haltung
The recently published book »Design als Haltung« (Verlag Hermann Schmidt) challenges the notion that design should be understood solely as a service. Design and society are closely interlinked: design influences how people interact with one another and how they behave within their built environment. This book paves the way for a new understanding of design—one that is open-ended and inclusive, focuses on the process, fosters collaboration, and resists serving turbo-capitalism.
In designing the book, we distilled the content down to its essence and translated it into a clear visual language. The central design element is the effect of misregistration. This is most evident on the cover: the red and blue printing inks are intentionally misaligned in most areas, creating a blurred effect. Only the word »Haltung« appears in sharp focus—achieved through precise registration of the colors. In keeping with the non-commercial character of the book, we deliberately limited ourselves to this one effect and reduced all other visual elements to a minimum.
